New York, New York

Although this was taken with an iPhone, I am pleased with the result, which is based on using what I have learnt at College regarding lighting tricks.

The subject was blinking whenever the flash went off and I was getting a lot of glare from the flash, on the glass behind her.As a result I got my dad to use a torch to provide a softer lighting effect.

I then turned the brightness and contrast up, to make her face brighter, and then adjusted the colour curves to finish it off.

Art student coursework photo.

I took this for a friend's art work. I used the large lamp lights and white background in our studio at college.

To achieve this light I had an orange filament lamp on her left side, pointing just past her face so she didn't have a washed out face, and then I turned up the brightness and contrast so that the photo was a bit lighter and she stood out more.

A walk through Nature.

While on a nature walk with one of my friends and her dog, we saw a path with trees overhanging it. I asked her to walk in front as she looked storybook-esque and took this.

I turned up the brightness and contrast, so that the trees were a brighter green and she and the dog were more defined.

I like the way it turned out as the way she is walking and the trees make the entire picture look like it is from a fairytale.

The Goth.

This was taken at Whitby Goth Weekend, we went down a back street and found a streetlight that we liked and wanted to try some photos.

I directed a friend of mine how I wanted the picture framed and posed myself.

I liked this one as it gives a sense of superiority.

To get the full effect of this I turned the brightness down, the contrast up and adjusted the colour curves. This made the background darker and my skin whiter.

Happy bassist.

I took this one of a bassist while he was enjoying playing at a gig. This was lit by the stage, and as I took the photo the light changed to a normal white light after a lot of fast changing coloured lights.

I liked the way that he appears to be on a black background, even though actually there is the rest of the band and stage behind him.

I turned up the contrast and the brightness down, to get him to stand out a little bit more.

A band in colour.

I took this using the ligths hitting the stage to light the photograph, which made thee two band members different colours.

On this one I only edited the brightness and contrast to make the colours stand out more and create a darker effect.

Ready and waiting.

I was asked to take pictures at a friend's gig, and this was one of my favourite shots, it was taken while the band were setting up.

The lights hitting the stage had made the colours look off and yellowed.

I corrected this by turning up the brightness while turning the contrast down.

"Face of the plague".

In this photo I arranged the band so the vocalist was at the front, bringing him to the most attention as he is the "front man".

This photo used flash but I didn't like the colours it gave.

I turned the brightness down, the contrast up and edited the curves to create a dark background while keeping light faces.

I stand alone.

This shot was taken as a profile for a band, it was to be used as part of a band photo shoot.

I used a torch on my phone to light it as we were in a derelict building with little light.

I then edited the brightness and saturation and sharpened it to achieve the desired effect.

Fire.

This picture was taken while on a shoot with my friend's band. I took this as I saw Jack, the subject, light his lighter in his face as it was dark and saw the light it cast on his face and saw potential for a good picture.

I liked the way it turned out and when edited the effect of the flame made Jack stand out due to the dark background.

I turned the brightness down substantially and the contrast up so his face was visible.
